Integration of health services and management is critical in improving the health and health care of all people, including improving access to care, improving health and clinical outcomes, improving the efficiency of services, reducing hospitalizations, reducing duplication of health investments, and reducing overall costs. Given the importance of integration towards UHC and addressing epidemics (HIV, TB, and Malaria), the BACKUP project funded by GIZ is currently supporting different countries including Tanzania in identifying existing practices of integrated health services and management for HIV, TB, and Malaria. In Tanzania, IHI is contracted to conduct the study to evaluate the models of integrated service delivery and management. The findings will inform program development for health system strengthening. The project will involve research in two regions (Mbeya and Tanga), one district from each region, and a sample of three health facilities from each district. This is exploratory qualitative research involving two approaches - a desk review of various documents and qualitative interviews with key stakeholders.
